Seriously at this point if you pay more than ~$1000 for a desktop PC you may as well just light money on fire.

Here's a random desktop, you can put a 3 GHz Xeon in it

http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/ ... sion-t1600" target="_blank

16 gigs ram for < $200.

You can certainly spend more, but why?

Origin is a company founded by some ex-Alienware employees that were disgusted when the company sold to Dell.

They make a really badass system. And they send it to you in a wooden crate.

Alienware has always been bullshit. Save a few hundred bucks and build a crate yourself.

I am about to upgrade mine and I will spend less than $500.

I am going to use my current gfx card (nVidia GTX460, it still plays everything I want perfectly), new mobo and proc, new memory and new SSD. I have a couple of cases laying around. I may upgrade my PSU. The one I have is 4 years old so it couldn't hurt.

Although alienware/origin are crazy expensive you cannot build a top of the line system like that under 1000.
Just a geforce 590 (not even the top of the line 690 right now) is at least 600$
Add in a good water cooling system and raid ssd's and your easily over 1500$
Now granted that is if you want to play current games at top reso's on a 30inch like me and not have to buy another system for at least 3 years.

Under a 1000 and your looking at not top reso's, not super video editing and prolly a new one in a year or 2.

All depends on your needs (and yes, editing photo's and videos of drunk sluts requires all that dammit)

Well, if you are editing video, I dunno. But you don't "need" to play max FPS max everything max resolution. Maybe it makes you feel special to do so, maybe you want to do so, but you sure don't need to. You can play at 100% everything for $5000, or you can play 85% everything for $1000, or you can play 65% everything for $500.

Most people play at 1920x1080 on a 23" monitor now days. My two generation old GTX460 plays at that just fine on max settings. The only reason I have any issues at all is my read write speeds of my jank HDD. Upgrading to an SSD will make all the differences in the world. I am going to step up from my Core2Duo while I'm at it.

I have a 3.33ghz core 2 duo. I got it like... a year ago to upgrade my 2.5 core 2. It was like $75 or something silly, and well worth the upgrade.

1920x1080 is garbage. You need 1920x1200 !

Fuck the TV resolution. <3 my Samsung 24" screen.
No sig for me.

But then you won't be able to walk around telling people who don't give a shit how cool your computer is.

Damn, you sprung for 2560x1600? That's like 1k. Not even I could justify that price for 160 more pixels.

The monitor was 2300 back in 2007, but it's still working fine (and it's a dell, go figure).
