Xbox One

Post by principessa » Wed Apr 10, 2013 5:19 am -0500

From IGN:

Rumors of the next Xbox's use of an AMD-based chipset have been circulating for months, and now Bloomberg is lending further credence to the claim. According to the news organization's anonymous sources, the system will utilize a chip based on AMD's Jaguar APU architecture. The article also claims that, because of the move away from Power PC technology to an x86 system, current Xbox 360 discs won't work with Microsoft's next console. This puts the possibility of hardware-based backwards compatibility in jeopardy.

EDIT: Xarp here. Editing it to change the title to the units name.

So they're using the same chips that the PS4 is using.

And they're absolutely requiring 100% internet connection to play games. One of the x-box devs was on twitter the other day and pretty much told people to "deal with it" in one of his tweets.

I'm really not digging these new systems if they are all about DRM.

That's X-Box. PS4 isn't limiting used games. At least from what I've read.

All the tools to block used games are in the PS4 system already. Sony themselves aren't doing it but they are leaving the keys to all that to individual developers. Bet your ass someone will take advantage of it.

Also the xbox will probably still be able to play offline much like you can play a 360 offline just without any market place downloads or netflix. My guess is there won't be a silver account for playing online. It will just be gold (being able to play online multiplayer and download dlc) and the offline connection (only being able to play games)
Actually no you won't be able to. What will happen is if you loose your connection after a certain amount of minutes (5 - 10) it will pop up a connection problem dialog and have you fix it before you can continue or even start playing.
It literally is a ALWAYS ON internet connection. Which is retarded.
At least with the PS4 even if you can't buy used games you can at least play them when you have no internet connection :P

They're introducing this, live, 10am pacific, tomorrow (21 May). You can see it on Xbox Live, Spike TV, or xbox.com.

Xbox super disappointed me. PS4 looks interesting. Both need to show more games to entice a buy.

Everything I've read states that the Xbox has to be online a little bit (~10 minutes) per 24 hours in order to play games.

Playstation's free network sucks ass, even their paid account shit is stupid too the only benefit being free shit games they throw at you once and awhile to make up for the fact that matchmaking sucks. I pay one price (60 bucks) a year and I couldn't be happier with my service.

You still have to pay money to play games on pc as well.

I can't use Netflix on my XBox without paying. I already pay for that. I can use it on my PC without paying another fee.

Is this really the next-gen XBox? I didn't even hear a peep about it until I saw it on the fucking WSJ. AM I REALLY THIS FUCKING OLD? Anyway, this thing looks stupid on all levels. I'll be happy to be proven wrong. I got a PS3 and it doesn't need a special fee (Xbox Live) to play Netflix or Youtubes. When a friend's kid got an Xbox and I saw you can't play youtube without Xbox Gold I was fucking shocked. Mostly because I can't believe that many people are paying for that shit.

As a "home media hub" this thing is a total piece of shit. The main thing you'd want from this would be that it lets you change channels. They claim it does but it does not. You have to use their IR remote to use your cable box to change the channel.

http://www.theverge.com/2013/5/21/43527 ... -google-tv
The problem is that the demoes weren't real — the Xbox One's TV integration is the same familiar nightmare we've known for nearly 20 years now. Instead of actually integrating with your TV service, the One sits on top of it: you plug your cable box's HDMI cable into the Xbox, which overlays the signal with its own interface. If you're lucky enough to own a newer cable box, you'll get to change channels directly through the HDMI connection, but most people will find themselves using the One's included IR blaster to control their cable or satellite boxes — a failure-prone one-way communication system that stubbornly refuses to die.

Amazon UK is taking pre-orders for the Xbox One and the PS4 @ GBP599.99 (or ~$904). Since no official price has been released yet, those prices are 'placeholders' for now.
They have their low price guarantee on pre-orders, so if the price goes down any time after you pre-order, you'll lock in at the lowest price that occurs, prior to shipment. It says the Xbox will be released on 31 December; no date listed for PS4, though.

All the games listed for them are GBP89.99, but those prices are placeholders, as well.

(of course, we can't buy it from them anyway, but just thought I'd throw the prices up here) Our Amazon hasn't listed them for pre-order yet.

Also, WIRED had an interview with the Xbone developers. They showed off some of the TV features. It seemed really choppy. TV wasn't smooth and fluid as it should have been.

Also, a number of industry insiders on Neogaf (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=576869), Microsoft’s yields on its APU are proving to be quite terrible. Assuming the rumours are true (which they most likely are considering the track record of the people supplying the rumours), Microsoft has three options:

- Delay the Xbox Ones release
- Reduce the clocks of the GPU and/or CPU
- Eat the losses and put out as many Xbox Ones as they can

The general consensus is that they’ll choose the second option.

The sky isn't looking very sunny for Microsoft.

It just keeps getting better. Microsoft cancelled the round table discussion that was scheduled to follow their E3 press conference.

They'll still have their E3 Press Conference (airing on SpikeTV), but canceling the roundtable afterwards means they won't have to answer any of the questions everyone wants answers to. It lets them control the message and ignore the issues with the hopes that all the hype will drown out the negativity.

From IGN

As explained by Microsoft, “Xbox One is designed to run in a low-powered, connected state. ... While a persistent connection is not required, Xbox One is designed to verify if system, application or game updates are needed and to see if you have acquired new games, or resold, traded in, or given your game to a friend. Games that are designed to take advantage of the cloud may require a connection.”

“With Xbox One you can game offline for up to 24 hours on your primary console, or one hour if you are logged on to a separate console accessing your library. Offline gaming is not possible after these prescribed times until you re-establish a connection, but you can still watch live TV and enjoy Blu-ray and DVD movies."

"In our role as a game publisher, Microsoft Studios will enable you to give your games to friends or trade in your Xbox One games at participating retailers. Third party publishers may opt in or out of supporting game resale and may set up business terms or transfer fees with retailers. Microsoft does not receive any compensation as part of this. In addition, third party publishers can enable you to give games to friends."

Microsoft says "your friends and family, your guests and acquaintances get unlimited access to all of your games. Anyone can play your games on your console--regardless of whether you are logged in or their relationship to you." The company added that “Xbox One is designed so game publishers can enable you to give your disc-based games to your friends. There are no fees charged as part of these transfers. There are two requirements: you can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once.”

It's worth noting that Microsoft allows you to gift games to friends but they can't borrow them. Microsoft added that "loaning or renting games won’t be available at launch, but we are exploring the possibilities with our partners."

Lawful, you can do that already with XB360. The issue is that it's an extra fee. The other issue is that they stopped selling the family subscription back in March.

Stop being such a Microsoft apologist and look at the facts in front of your face and just realize that they're trying to fuck you. They aren't catering to the "gaming" crowd with this new system.
